PROMISING ASPECTS OF MEDICINAL PLANTS CULTIVATION

Training programme  on “Promising Aspects of Medicinal Plants Cultivation” is proposed to be conducted on 15.10.2026 for the Farmers of Pudukkottai district at Tamil Nadu Science Forum, Pudukkottai. About 40 numbers of Farmers are expected to participate in the programme.

Medicinal plants are gaining global importance due to the increasing demand for natural healthcare products, herbal medicines and traditional therapies. In India, medicinal plants play a significant role in Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani systems and offer promising opportunities for crop diversification and farmer income enhancement. At the local level, they are valuable for traditional healthcare practices and rural livelihood generation. Economically, cultivation of high-demand medicinal plants can provide additional income through scientific cultivation, quality production, post-harvest management and value addition. Commercial opportunities can be strengthened through processing, packaging, organised marketing, contract cultivation and farmer–industry linkages. The training will highlight these promising aspects and market opportunities.
